About the IDB Budget and Financial Monitoring Intern Position
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group is seeking an active undergraduate student for a two-month paid internship, under the Consultant modality, located at its Headquarters in Washington D.C. This opportunity is part of the 2026 Summer Internship Program, designed for university students from member countries to gain professional experience, learn about development work, and understand corporate management within the Bank. Visa sponsorship is available for eligible candidates.

What you’ll do
- Review financial transactions and payment processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with established guidelines.
- Verify that all required documentation and controls are meticulously maintained across various teams.
- Develop basic analytics or dashboards to effectively support the monitoring of financial transactions.
- Identify and suggest simple opportunities to enhance existing workflows and implement best practices within financial operations.
What you'll need
Education: An active undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or Audit from an accredited University. Your graduation date must be after the internship period (August 15, 2026).
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of an additional Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is considered a strong asset.
Key Skills: A commitment to continuous learning, strong collaboration and knowledge-sharing abilities, a client-focused approach, effective communication and influencing skills, and an innovative mindset open to new ideas.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel, experience with Power BI or similar analytics tools, foundational knowledge in financial principles, budgeting, and audit practices, and robust data analysis skills.
Requirements
- Citizenship: Must be a national of an IDB member country.
- Active Student: Enrolled in an undergraduate (bachelor’s) program as of the internship start date. Graduation date must be after the internship period.
- Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) currently working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
- First Job at the IDB Group: Must be a first-time participant in an Internship Program with the Bank or IDB Invest, and not have been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (CW), contractor, or service provider through any other contractual modality.
- Documentation: Submit your resume, academic transcripts (official or unofficial, issued within the last three months), and a university letter certifying student status. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable initially but official ones will be required if you progress.
- Academic Standing: Undergraduate students must have completed their second year of school when applying.
- Availability: Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) from June 16 to August 15, 2026. These dates are fixed and cannot be modified.
- Work Authorization (for international students in U.S.A.): Work authorization must be through CPT or OPT. Consult your school advisor as international students may have limitations on working hours.
