About the Role
The Instagram Security Ecosystems team is seeking a Product Security Engineer focused on enabling Instagram product teams to develop features with security and user safety in mind. You will work directly with Instagram engineers, hardening both product features and protective frameworks to deter bad actors.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product managers and technical leads on threat modeling and security architecture.
- Conduct manual design and implementation reviews of web, mobile, and native code.
- Guide developers to prevent vulnerabilities.
- Enhance static and dynamic analysis frameworks in coordination with other security teams.
- Advise on technical aspects of the bug bounty program and support independent researchers.
- Contribute to industry advancement through conference talks and open source projects.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 8+ years of experience identifying vulnerabilities in interpreted languages such as Python and PHP. Proven experience in threat modeling and secure systems design, along with expertise in exploiting common security vulnerabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in product software engineering or product management.
- Background in security consulting or leadership advisory roles.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity investigations, abuse operations, or incident response.
- Active contributions to the security community through research, blogging, presentations, or bug bounty initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits
Base compensation ranged from $184,000 to $257,000 per year with additional bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. Individual compensation is based on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
