Overview
The Database Platform Team builds and operates managed database services powering shopping, fulfillment, payments, ads, and retailer experiences. The team is focused on reliability, security, and cost efficiency across multiple cloud regions.
About the Role
- Lead the end‑to‑end strategy, roadmap, and execution for the managed database platform.
- Manage and develop a high‑performing team of engineers.
- Design and operate multi‑tenant database offerings ensuring high availability and performance.
- Build automation and control planes using infrastructure‑as‑code.
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to drive cost savings and platform adoption.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
Minimum 8+ years of engineering experience with 2+ years in management. At least 5 years building and operating production database platforms. Hands‑on experience with cloud providers (AWS/GCP), infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform), and container orchestration (Kubernetes). Expertise in high availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuning of relational databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with control planes and Kubernetes operators for databases.
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, MySQL, Redis, and distributed systems.
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus/Grafana and resilience testing.
- Cost optimization in cloud database environments.
Work Arrangement & Compensation
This role is open to candidates in the US (remote) or in Canada (Toronto preferred). Highly competitive compensation with equity and benefits.
