Duties/Responsibilities
- Safe operation of ADA vans according to predetermined schedule and completing the associated paperwork.
- Occasional non-driving duties such as vehicle washing and attending safety meetings.
Position Summary
As a Student Van Operator, you will be responsible for transporting passengers with registered disabilities in an accessible van to and from various campus locations, adhering to all applicable laws and department procedures. This role involves assisting passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle as necessary, ensuring their safety and comfort. You will also conduct thorough vehicle inspections before, during, and after each shift to guarantee the vehicle is in proper operating condition. Essential administrative tasks include completing necessary paperwork, such as time sheets and detailed vehicle condition reports. Furthermore, you will operate other vehicle equipment, including electronic AVL equipment and wheelchair ramps, to facilitate smooth and efficient service.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification In Position
Valid Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
- Good communication skills and an ability to work effectively with people of various backgrounds, physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities, and skill levels.
- Ability to work with a tablet, handheld radio, and learn to operate company software.
Physical Demands
The role requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, lift up to 15 pounds, and assist in securing a wheelchair with restraints.
