Part-Time Online Faculty - Natural Sciences

About the Role

Excelsior University is seeking experienced, student-centered instructors to join our instructional pool as part-time natural sciences faculty. We are looking for individuals qualified to teach courses such as Science in Today’s World, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology, General Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy. Reporting to the Department Chair for General Education and Social Sciences, faculty will be assigned courses based on qualifications, interest, performance, and availability.

This is a remote, part-time faculty position. Instructional faculty utilize pre-built online course shells with common readings, activities, and assignments, requiring adherence to the University's designed curriculum.

Faculty Duties And Responsibilities

• Implement courses as designed by the University, completing weekly tasks on a provided checklist.
• Apply personal knowledge and expertise to the subject matter.
• Engage regularly and substantively with students via email, announcements, and online discussion boards.
• Provide timely, high-quality feedback on student work.
• Hold regular virtual office hours.
• Keep the department chair informed of any student or course issues.
• Follow all University policies and complete required training and pre-term meetings.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.

• A master’s degree or higher in a relevant science field (biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, etc.) with a minimum of 15 graduate credits in the disciplinary area of teaching. A doctorate is preferred.
• Experience teaching in an asynchronous online environment.
• Experience with the Canvas learning management system is preferred.
• A student-centered teaching approach.
• A commitment to supporting the success of all students, especially those under-served by traditional higher education.

Rate Of Pay

A flat rate of $1000 per credit for sections with at least 10 undergraduate students or 8 graduate students. For courses with fewer students (low enrolled), payment will be based on a directed study rate: $250 per undergraduate student or $300 per graduate student, calculated at the close of late registration.
