Job Overview: Database Engineer

We are recruiting a remote Database Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and highly available cloud-based database solutions. This role involves working through the complete software development lifecycle with an emphasis on automation, efficiency, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Architecture & Design: Design secure and scalable cloud database solutions and develop data models.
  • Cloud Database Provisioning: Provision and configure cloud instances, migrate on-premises databases.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor performance using cloud tools; optimize queries and resources.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement access controls, encryption, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Set up automated backup and recovery systems.
  • Automation & Scripting: Use tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Bash, and Python for automation.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Cost Optimization: Monitor usage and recommend cost-saving measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Experience with MySQL, Oracle, and Amazon RDS.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and NoSQL databases.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools.
  • Strong understanding of database security and compliance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active VA Public Trust clearance.
  • Experience with VA systems and federal agencies.
  • Certifications in cloud technologies or database administration.
  • Remote work experience.
