Position Summary: Virtualization Systems Architect

Infosys Public Services is actively seeking an experienced Virtualization Systems Architect to drive business development within the US Federal markets and contribute to our Client Services Group.

The NIT Infrastructure Platforms – Infrastructure Services team is dedicated to engineering robust software and hardware infrastructure solutions, encompassing UNIX, Windows, virtualization, storage, and automation. This role specifically focuses on server virtualization, entailing the design, configuration, deployment, integration, maintenance, and support of server virtualization and related infrastructure solutions. As a subject matter expert, you will provide best practice consultations for server virtualization, offer strategic recommendations, and specialize in building and managing virtual computing platforms. A critical aspect of this role involves data migration and managing the virtual machine lifecycle.

Required Skills and Experience

• Architect and design comprehensive server virtualization solutions.
• Perform systems administration for Windows Server and UNIX / Linux systems, including RHEL and SLES.
• Develop automation capabilities using scripting and APIs such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, PowerShell, Python, Bash, and Terraform.
• Perform certificate lifecycle management for systems and applications.
• Evaluate server resource inefficiencies and provide effective right-sizing recommendations.
• Manage and maintain server virtualization platforms both on-premise and in cloud environments like VMware, Nutanix, Harvester, OpenShift, Proxmox, Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Lead meetings pertinent to specific technical projects or tasks.
• Work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively within a team.
• Create time-sensitive deliverables as required.
• Potentially lead project teams within an assigned unit to develop, plan, and manage project tasks.
• Participate in the preparation of materials and oral presentations for customers and management.
• Respond promptly to incidents in ServiceNow.
• Assume responsibility for resolving advanced technical issues within the environment.
• Diagnose and repair system problems, collaborating closely with vendor support for all servers, software, and hardware.
• Define, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot system performance for all server virtualization and related infrastructure systems.
• Basic understanding of data center networking principles (TCP/IP, switching/routing, ports and protocols, firewall concepts, load-balancing).
• Strong, demonstrable scripting experience in one or more of the following: PowerShell, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, VBScript, C++, Unix Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript.
• Basic understanding of storage protocols (e.g., NFS, SMB, S3, FC, iSCSI, NVMe).
• Good knowledge of Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, and Group Policy.
• Proficiency with MS Windows Server operating systems (Server 2016, 2019, 2022) and RHEL, SLES operating systems.
• Knowledge of MS database server SQL Server 2008 R2 and later.
• Knowledge of container technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and Rancher.
• Knowledge of IaaS in cloud environments using MS Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience hardening and improving the security of Windows operating systems, hardware platforms, local area networks, wide area networks, messaging, and client-server applications.
• Ability to develop and maintain comprehensive IT documentation.
• Independently analyze and develop innovative resolutions for complex availability and/or performance problems at the component level, working with vendors and implementing solutions autonomously.
• Leads project teams within an assigned unit, developing, planning, and managing project tasks.
• Participate in efforts to design and deploy AI solutions.
• Provide training to less experienced team members of the IS department.
• Perform registry edits as needed.

Preferred Skills

• Current VMware, Nutanix, or similar Certification (e.g., VCP, NCP).
• Strong background in server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Nutanix, OpenShift, Harvester, Proxmox, MS Hyper-V, Citrix, Azure, AWS).
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience with Dell and HPE server hardware.
• Experience working in a large enterprise environment.
• Knowledge of storage area networks, including network operating systems, SAN protocols, SAN management, and SAN physical configuration.

Educational Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent from an accredited institution is required. Three years of progressive, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of each year of education. Candidates holding a Master’s degree program are strongly preferred.
