About the Role: Art Director

Revue21, a long-form journalism media outlet recognized for its in-depth investigations in France and internationally, as well as its visual identity, is seeking an Art Director. This is a key position at the heart of the media's production, with direct responsibility for its web and print identity.

Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, your responsibilities include:

Artistic Direction

  • Conceive and evolve the visual identity of the magazine on the website and in print: graphic charter, illustration and iconography policy, etc.
  • Bring the artistic direction to life across various platforms (print, website, newsletters, social media), in collaboration with the editorial and marketing departments.

Illustrations and Iconography

  • Develop a network of visual contributors (illustrators, photographers, etc.).
  • Guide illustrators for original creations: illustrations, collages, maps, etc.
  • Occasionally design illustrations (photo montages, infographics…) to accompany narratives.
  • Propose photographic narratives and portfolios that resonate with the editorial team's subjects.

Print Magazine Layout

  • Imagine the layout for each issue (cover, article openings, new sections…) with a strong emphasis on typography, visuals, and color, in close collaboration with the editorial team.
  • Ensure production, from the layout of text and images to manufacturing follow-up (pre-press and printing), in conjunction with the editorial managers and service providers.

Experience and Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience in the art direction of magazines or reviews, with mastery of the entire print production chain, from conception to manufacturing.
  • Ability to lead a visual editorial project in its entirety, collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Strong visual culture (photography, typography, illustration) and good knowledge of print and digital media.
  • Proficiency in layout and editorial design.
  • Mastery of the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Figma.
  • Knowledge of technical constraints for printing.
