Job Description
About Indie.io
indie.io is a US-based game management and publishing platform supporting independent developers from development through distribution - and beyond! Our mission is to provide independent developers with the resources, services, and management tools needed for success. Through collaboration and passion, we strive to cultivate a diverse and vibrant gaming landscape that resonates with players and creators alike!
About the Role
We're looking for a contract Social Media Manager to own and grow indie.io's brand presence while also supporting the discoverability, momentum, and long-term growth of the games in our catalog. This is a 3-month contract position with the potential to convert to a full-time hire based on performance and business needs. This role blends traditional social media management with light community management responsibilities. This is a fully remote contract for U.S.-based candidates.
You'll be responsible for shaping how our publisher brand shows up online, amplifying our games in ways that feel native to each platform, and building genuine relationships with players, developers, and creators. This is a role for someone who is comfortable working autonomously, juggling multiple game titles at different stages, and making smart judgment calls without needing heavy oversight.
What You'll Do
Social & Brand Strategy
- Own and execute indie.io's social media strategy across platforms such as X/Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Discord, and emerging channels as relevant.
- Develop a cohesive brand voice that balances our publisher identity with the unique tone of individual games.
- Plan and maintain a rolling social content calendar across a large, active catalog.
- Track performance metrics (reach, engagement, growth, click-throughs) across platforms.
- Use data to iterate on content formats, posting cadence, and platform focus.
Game & Catalog Promotion
- Promote multiple games concurrently across different lifecycle stages (announcement, launch, updates, discounts, long-tail support).
- Work closely with Marketing Managers and our in-house Creative teams to align messaging, beats, content production, and timing.
- Identify scalable ways to spotlight games across multiple beats, including sales, physical and digital events, RDA and launch messaging, and more.
- Maintain relationships with indie.io developers, cross-promoting their content and providing guidance on content strategies.
Community & Engagement
- Engage with players, developers, and fans in comments, replies, DMs, and community spaces.
- Act as a light-touch community manager: surfacing feedback, flagging sentiment shifts, and escalating issues when needed.
- Help set expectations and best practices for developer-facing social and community interactions.
Content & Trends
- Ideate, write, and publish platform-native content (including short-form video concepts, memes, threads, and reactive posts).
- Stay current on gaming, internet, and platform trends.
- Collaborate with internal designers, editors, and video teams to scale content production efficiently.
Who You Are
- 3–4 years of experience in social media and/or community management, ideally in games, entertainment, or digital-native brands.
- Strong understanding of, and passion for, gaming culture, indie games, and player communities.
- Proven experience managing multiple brands, products, or content streams at once.
- Excellent written communication skills and sharp content judgment.
- Comfort working independently and making decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally with marketing, creative, and product teams.
- Experience utilizing social media management & intelligence platforms.
- Familiarity with Discord moderation and community tools is a plus.
- Experience coordinating with content creators or influencer teams is not required, but a plus.
Compensation
