Overview of the Role: Technical Content Writer, Backend

The Technical Content Writer, Backend will create high-quality, in-depth backend engineering content that provides practical, technically accurate guidance for senior technical audiences. This part-time, contract position requires producing 1-2 long-form blog articles monthly, showcasing deep backend engineering expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Writing 2-3 backend-focused long-form blog articles per month, typically 1,500–2,500 words.
• Converting complex backend topics into practical, readable guidance with clear structure, examples, and trade-offs.
• Ensuring technical correctness by validating terminology, architecture claims, performance/security statements, and 'gotchas'.
• Incorporating SEO fundamentals naturally, including search intent alignment, headings, internal linking suggestions, and meta title/description recommendations.
• Revising drafts based on editorial feedback while preserving accuracy and clarity.

Requirements

• Writing Experience: Proven long-form technical content writing for engineering audiences.
• Technical Background: Backend technical fluency from hands-on engineering experience.
• Research Skills: Ability to independently research and verify sources, avoiding unverified claims.
• Communication: Clear, direct and advanced English proficiency suitable for professional engineering blogs.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Portfolio of long-form backend engineering content for senior technical audiences.
• Demonstrated senior-level technical thinking: Ability to explain trade-offs, constraints, and failure modes, not just providing definitions.
• Deep expertise in 2-3 backend domains, such as: API design, Distributed systems, Databases/data modeling, Performance/reliability, Observability, Messaging/queues.
• Efficient research skills with unwavering technical accuracy.
