About the role

About In Tandem

At In Tandem, we build technology that helps families manage everyday routines and navigate life’s biggest transitions. Through our four brands—OurFamilyWizard, Cozi, FamilyWall, and Custody Navigator—we help families stay organized, communicate well, and foster healthy childhoods. We believe technology should strengthen relationships and make daily coordination less complicated. Everything we create is designed to lighten the mental load, reduce conflict, and support families through big and small moments. If you want your work to make a real difference in the daily lives of parents and kids, In Tandem is the place where your impact will truly matter.

About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Android Engineer to join our Growth team focused on Family Org (Cozi + FamilyWall). You'll design and run A/B experiments across the Android application to accelerate learning, test hypotheses, and deliver measurable value to users. You’ll lead our efforts to make experimentation faster, safer, and more valuable on the Android platform. This is a role where speed of learning matters as much as speed of shipping.

What You Will Accomplish

  • First Month: Set up your local environment, ship your first small contribution, and learn the rhythms of our pod. Study the Cozi and FamilyWall Android codebases, understand architectural differences, and identify the experimentation surface area. Build connections with product, design, QA, and backend teammates.
  • First 60 Days: Become comfortable operating within our development lifecycle from planning through production releases. Design and instrument your first A/B experiments in the Android app — defining hypotheses, configuring feature flags, and ensuring clean data collection. Work across subscription, onboarding, and activation flows for Cozi and FamilyWall, and begin forming opinions on where the experimentation framework can improve.
  • First 90 Days: Autonomously scope, build, and analyze Growth experiments. Proactively propose experiment ideas based on data and user behavior. Participate in technical planning, anticipate edge cases, and balance iteration speed with app quality. Partner with product, design, and data to refine the hypothesis-test-learn cycle.
  • Beyond First Few Months: Shape the experimentation roadmap for Family Org Android alongside product and engineering leadership. Mentor teammates on experiment design, instrumentation best practices, and data hygiene. Drive improvements to conversion, activation, and retention across both Cozi and FamilyWall, and contribute to cross-platform alignment (Android, iOS, Web) for consistent Growth experiments.

Frequently asked questions

What specific AI tools does In Tandem encourage Senior Android Engineers to use?
In Tandem is enthusiastic about AI-assisted development. While they mention tools like Copilot, Claude, and Cursor, the emphasis is on your proactive use and advocacy for AI tools in your daily workflow to enhance coding, debugging, and problem-solving. Be prepared to discuss your personal experiences and how you integrate these into your development process.
How does In Tandem balance iteration speed with app quality in Growth experiments?
In Tandem values a pragmatic approach to Growth. They embrace a bias for action, believing the fastest path to 'good enough' is often best. However, this is balanced with a commitment to quality. You'll be expected to anticipate edge cases and ensure clean instrumentation and data collection, demonstrating how to iterate quickly without compromising the overall quality and stability of the Android application.
What is the expected level of autonomy for a Senior Android Engineer at In Tandem?
This role offers significant autonomy, particularly after the initial onboarding period. By 90 days, you'll be expected to autonomously scope, build, and analyze Growth experiments. You will also proactively propose experiment ideas and play a key role in shaping the future experimentation roadmap for the Family Org Android team.
How important is cross-platform experience for this Senior Android Engineer role?
While this is an Android-focused role, cross-platform experience is highly valuable. You'll contribute to cross-platform alignment for consistent Growth experiments, working with iOS and Web teams. Familiarity with building or optimizing cross-platform signup and subscription flows is also a plus, demonstrating your ability to think holistically about user journeys.
What are the key differences between Cozi and FamilyWall Android codebases mentioned in the job description?
The job description states that you will study the Cozi and FamilyWall Android codebases and understand how they differ architecturally. While specific differences aren't detailed, this indicates you'll need to quickly grasp and potentially work with distinct code structures and implementations for each application.
How does In Tandem support professional growth for its Senior Android Engineers?
In Tandem supports growth through a dedicated Learning & Development stipend for employees, opportunities to mentor teammates on experiment design and best practices, and by involving you in shaping the strategic experimentation roadmap. This role offers a chance to elevate your skills and influence product direction.
What is the expected approach to proposing new experiment ideas as a Senior Android Engineer at In Tandem?
As a Senior Android Engineer at In Tandem, you're encouraged to be proactive. You'll be expected to propose experiment ideas based on data and user behavior, rather than solely executing assigned tasks. This involves leveraging your understanding of the product and user analytics to identify opportunities for growth.
How does In Tandem foster a culture of inclusion for its engineering teams?
In Tandem explicitly seeks a 'Champion of inclusion' who creates space for diverse voices and guides the team toward optimal solutions. This means actively seeking out different perspectives and ensuring all team members feel empowered to contribute to decision-making processes.
