Job Overview: Dishwasher

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all dishes, pots, pans, glassware, and utensils within the unit, adhering strictly to company-directed guidelines for sanitation and cleanliness.

Position Description

  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment for all staff members and guests.
  • Properly scrape, rack, and stack glassware, plateware, and silverware in the dishwasher.
  • Perform sweeping, mopping, and washing of pots, dishes, and other items using hand or dish equipment, including cooler detailing.
  • Remove waste, garbage, and recyclable materials from the kitchen area to appropriate receptacles.
  • Stock all cleaned glassware, plateware, and silverware efficiently.
  • Adhere to all dishware washing procedures and maintain a continuous cleaning schedule for the dish machine every two hours.
  • Keep workstation and equipment appearances clean, assisting with overall kitchen cleanliness.
  • Assist in the stocking, cleaning, and closing of all stations as directed.
  • Restock and/or break down workstation at the conclusion of the shift.
  • Support kitchen staff with prep work.
  • Cross-train on prep stations and assist co-workers when needed to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding the company’s products and happenings.
  • Notify manager/supervisor of low inventory and recommend new inventory; communicate opportunities and concerns.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned or determined by management or supervisors, moving with a sense of urgency.
  • Understand and utilize all safety and sanitation practices as defined in the safety program, reporting any accidents to management.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as established in the Staff Member Handbook.

Requirements

Skills/Experience:
  • Six months to one-year minimum dishwashing experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with other departments and outside contacts.
  • Ability to complete a heavy workload and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Good judgment and decision-making abilities.
Educational Requirements:
  • High school degree or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements:

The role demands working in a fast-paced, high-energy, and physically demanding environment. Staff members must be able to spend 100% of working time standing, walking, and reaching, as well as pushing, pulling, and lifting objects (from lower to higher positions or horizontally). The ability to feel or grasp objects of different sizes and shapes is required, along with maintaining body equilibrium on various surfaces. This position involves climbing, ascending/descending ladders, stairs, and ramps. Candidates must be able to carry loads greater than 35 pounds and exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently. Clear communication in the primary restaurant language (primarily English) is essential. Normal hearing levels and specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment, are also required.

Work Environment:

Exposed to weather conditions and prevalent temperature changes. Subject to moderate to high ambient noise levels. Frequently required to function in narrow aisles or passageways. Hazards include, but are not limited to, cuts from broken glass and metal cans, burns, slipping, and tripping. Frequently required to wash hands and/or wear gloves.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and guests. Expressing or exchanging ideas or instructions by the spoken word.
