Role Overview: Data Scientist Research Intern
As an R&D Intern on the Research team, you will collaborate with a mentor from the Advanced Analytics Team on new product development. This small, fast, and adaptive analytics team combines research, software development, and testing expertise. You will contribute to developing and delivering scientific and pragmatic solutions for a wide range of revenue science topics, including forecasting, pricing, and optimization for emerging needs in a rapidly changing world.
This role offers exciting opportunities to work with experts in applying generative AI and machine learning techniques to existing revenue management problems. Projects typically involve extensive research, data exploration, solution prototyping, software development, and testing.
What You'll Be Doing...
- Preparing and analyzing data, identifying opportunities and problems, and designing and implementing solutions.
- Communicating and presenting work to various audiences to clearly explain functionality and/or benefit.
- Producing required technical documentation.
What You'll Bring To Us…
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Systems Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- For Ph.D. candidates, prior experience conducting research is preferred.
- Previous work in Generative AI (GenAI) and machine learning is preferred.
- Strong interest in revenue science, general forecasting, and estimation concepts.
- Excellent ability to identify and proactively solve problems, particularly in data modeling.
- Comfortable with one or more programming languages (Java, Python, or SAS).
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
- Proficiency in Python (primary), with working knowledge of SQL and RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and foundational ML concepts.
- Strong SQL querying skills, experience with Pandas for data manipulation, and ability to perform basic analytical tasks.
Nice to Have…
- Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar agentic AI frameworks.
- Understanding of hospitality and revenue management principles.
- Background in time-series forecasting or demand planning.
- Familiarity with dashboarding and visualization tools (e.g., Streamlit, Plotly, Dash).
