ON-CALL 508 Compliance Specialist

The ON-CALL 508 Compliance Specialist provides expert accessibility support to ensure that documents, web products, and digital communications meet Section 508 and WCAG standards. This role involves reviewing, testing, and remediating a variety of digital assets for compliance under urgent or ad hoc conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • File Review: Assess Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, and other digital documents for Section 508 compliance using both automated tools and manual review.
  • Document Remediation: Fix tagging, alt text, color contrast, and structure issues to meet accessibility standards.
  • Web Accessibility Testing: Evaluate web pages, applications, and SCORM files for Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 AA compliance using tools like ANDI, Axe, WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, etc.
  • Reporting: Prepare evaluation reports detailing findings and remediation recommendations.
  • Collaboration & Training: Engage with content creators, developers, and teams to implement accessibility best practices, and develop training materials.
  • Continuous Improvement: Keep up-to-date with the latest accessibility standards, tools, and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • DHS Trusted Tester certification (v5.0 or higher)
  • High school degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Section 508 compliance testing, document remediation, and web accessibility.

Additional Qualifications

  • Expert-level proficiency with accessibility evaluation tools (ANDI, Axe, WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, Acrobat Pro, PAC2024, CommonLook, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.0 AA standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with federal accessibility standards and government agency projects
  • Experience in developing and delivering accessibility training
  • Familiarity with web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and document creation tools
  • Ability to handle urgent and on-call accessibility needs
