Introduction
The Carbon Design System is IBM’s open-source design system for products and experiences. It includes working code, design tools, resources, and guidelines that fuel a vibrant community of contributors. The system is built on IBM Design Language primitives and is designed to minimize the time teams spend on re-building basic elements, allowing more focus on client-specific customizations.
Your Role And Responsibilities
As a UX Visual Designer at IBM, you will help evolve and deliver Carbon. You will build relationships across IBM, translate user research into scalable design patterns, and present your solutions to large groups. Key responsibilities include communicating design outcomes to developers, collaborating with teams, and maintaining a high-quality user experience.
- Focus on best-practice UX and visual design.
- Develop low, medium, and high-fidelity prototypes.
- Work collaboratively across disciplines and share critiques.
- Translate complex design problems into intuitive solutions.
- Engage in systems thinking and responsive design.
Required Technical And Professional Expertise
- 3+ years of product design and shipping software products experience.
- Expert skills in visual design principles including typography, layout and color.
- Strong portfolio with user-centered design examples.
- Excellent proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, and Keynote.
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
- Experience designing for accessibility.
- Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and Web Components.
