Your Role and Responsibilities as a Cloud Engineer - Entry Level

In this role, you will be part of our IBM Client Innovation Center (CIC), providing deep technical and industry expertise to a diverse array of public and private sector clients globally. Our delivery centers offer localized skills and technical expertise, driving innovation and the adoption of new technologies.

As an Associate Multi-Cloud Engineer, You Will:

  • Support the development and deployment of applications and services across AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud environments.
  • Assist in building cloud-native solutions utilizing platform services such as compute, storage, networking, and managed databases.
  • Contribute to the automation of infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools.
  • Work with containerized workloads using Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Support CI/CD pipeline implementation for continuous integration and delivery of cloud applications.
  • Collaborate with platform, security, and application teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards.
  • Participate in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and incident resolution across cloud environments.
  • Assist in implementing cloud security best practices including IAM, secrets management, and compliance controls.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for cloud configurations, deployments, and operational runbooks.
  • Stay current with evolving cloud technologies, DevOps tools, and multi-cloud best practices.

Core Competencies

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:

  • Proficiency in Python (preferred) or Java/Go, with strong scripting skills in Bash/PowerShell.
  • Hands-on experience with two or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and core services (compute, storage, networking, IAM).
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native development concepts including microservices and REST-based integrations.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI.
  • Proficiency in Git/GitHub version control and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong knowledge of containerization using Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform (preferred), Ansible, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, ELK, Dynatrace) and basic reliability practices.
  • Understanding of cloud security fundamentals, including RBAC/IAM, least privilege access, and secure deployment practices.

Additional Skills:

  • Awareness of AIOps and AI-enabled platform engineering, including support for AI/ML workloads and automation tools.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and database fundamentals; exposure to messaging/integration tools (Kafka, Service Bus, SQS/SNS).
