Plant Utility Position Overview

As a Plant Utility at Ash Grove Cement, you will operate mobile equipment to transfer raw materials from the dock area to the production area, ensuring smooth and efficient plant operations. This role requires adherence to established policies and procedures under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate various mobile equipment, including pedestal-mounted cranes, front-end loaders, and water trucks, for material transfer.
• Perform physical tasks such as shoveling, poking, and pulling raw materials.
• Work at heights of up to 30 feet and traverse a 160-foot incline conveyor at 18-19 degrees.
• Handle and operate hand tools and equipment like wheelbarrows, grease guns, shovels, brooms, bars, rose bud torches, water hoses, air hoses, screens, belt conveyors, gates, valves, and oil cans safely and effectively.
• Maintain compliance with all specified safety guidelines and procedures in a diverse working environment.
• Work varying schedules, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as dictated by barge arrival times.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven ability to safely and effectively operate mobile equipment such as pedestal-mounted cranes, front-end loaders, and water trucks.
• Familiarity with operating various hand tools and industrial equipment.
• Strong ability to read and comprehend warning labels, instructions, signs, and similar critical information.
• Capacity to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions and challenging environments.

Working Environment at Ash Grove Cement

This role involves work in both a shop environment and outdoors throughout the plant. Expect exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise, necessitating strict adherence to safety guidelines. Work may also involve high elevations up to 250 feet and exposure to all weather conditions, along with jarring and vibratory conditions typical of mobile equipment operation.
