Job Summary: Revenue Cycle Compliance Analyst
The Revenue Cycle Compliance Analyst is primarily responsible for ensuring time entries and invoices adhere to client Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs), minimizing audit risk and improving recoverability of fees. The role partners closely with key CRMs, billing specialists, and clients to strengthen billing accuracy, coach timekeepers on best practices for time entry based on client requirements and drive continuous improvements in billing compliance. Essential functions include:
- Review daily time entries and pre-bills submitted by attorneys and support staff for specific firm clients; flag noncompliant entries that require revision and make recommendations for corrections to align with client and carrier specific billing rules to reduce audit exposure.
- Revise time entries when appropriate to ensure compliance with client and carrier-specific billing rules.
- Deliver ongoing training and professional development to timekeepers (paralegals, associates and partners) to correct noncompliant billing habits, reinforce best practices for time entry, and create more clear and concise narratives.
- Work directly with Billing Attorneys and e-Billing Team to prepare and submit invoice appeals to recover fees erroneously audited or disallowed by client’s billing auditors; assist in the preparation of appeal narratives based on client OCGs, reducing administrative time spent by the Billing Attorney.
- Review incoming OCGs for key clients and CRMs to provide comprehensive training to timekeepers on billing rules and requirements.
- Develop time entry guides outlining OCG requirements for key clients to be distributed to timekeepers performing work on clients; stay updated on new timekeepers who begin working on clients to ensure timekeepers are provided time entry guide and trained on how to create compliant entries.
- Track which timekeepers for key clients consistently receive audits for noncompliant entries and provide targeted training and development on how to correct entries.
- Contribute to the firm’s financial performance by minimizing invoice audits and successfully appealing audited fees.
- Communicate updates to timekeepers and partner teams (Billing, e-Billing and Revenue Cycle Operations) regarding changes in carrier guidelines, more efficient billing practices, and new requirements that impact their team and workflows.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a paralegal or attorney handling insurance related work; or experience working on a billing compliance team in a law firm environment; or experience working as a bill auditor for an insurance company.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a law firm environment (preferred).
- Experience with Elite 3E, InTapp Time, and Laurel (preferred).
- Solid understanding of client Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs), legal billing rules, and audit workflows.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret audit findings and craft persuasive appeals.
- Excellent communication and coaching abilities to influence attorney and staff behaviors and practices.
- High attention to detail; comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
Compensation and Benefits
Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of California: $116,000 - $237,000
- State of Colorado: $107,000 - $191,000
- State of Illinois: $105,000 - $204,000
- State of Massachusetts: $116,000 - $222,000
- State of Maryland: $113,000 - $171,000
- State of Minnesota: $116,000 - $192,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $126,000 - $229,000
- State of New York: $108,000 - $234,000
- State of Vermont: $115,000 - $220,000
- State of Washington: $113,000 - $214,000
- Washington, D.C.: $150,000 - $220,000
The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
