This role can be based in their virtual office, The Link, or any of their physical locations. While not strictly required, a location within the New England area is preferred for candidates with asbestos litigation experience.

The Mass Tort Paralegal Role

The Mass Tort Paralegal will provide crucial assistance to attorneys in various aspects of legal practice. Key responsibilities include fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing/case management, and ensuring overall client service. The position will primarily focus on the New England asbestos practice.

Functions specific to litigation practice may include:

  • Discovery management
  • Deposition preparation
  • In-depth investigation
  • Trial and mediation preparation support
  • Analysis of factual information
  • Assistance in preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Management of document production databases
  • Case management database oversight
  • Trial participation

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude at all times.
  • Comply with all firm policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate sustained attention to detail and deliver high-quality work.
  • Develop technical proficiency in database use and management, internet/electronic research, and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
  • Independently organize and manage files, or delegate and supervise tasks to Paralegal Assistants or Information Governance.
  • Attend and actively participate in in-house Continuing Legal Education (CLEs).
  • Supervise and mentor Paralegal Assistants.
  • Anticipate attorney needs proactively.
  • Independently handle all key duties without direct supervision from another Paralegal or Senior Paralegal.
  • Meet the billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year.

  • Lead and motivate others; manage direct report(s) including performance evaluation, goal-setting, development, and problem-solving, where applicable.

Position-Specific Requirements:

  • Mandatory Asbestos / Toxic Tort litigation experience.
  • Paralegal Certificate or a Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or an Associate’s degree combined with paralegal training.
  • Familiarity with e-filing protocols and online docket research in New England state and federal courts.
  • Location in the New England area is preferred but not required for candidates with asbestos litigation experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation is commensurate with skill and experience, varying based on factors like skills, experience, and location. Full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental coverage, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, an employee assistance program, Paid Time Off, paid holidays, and participation in a retirement plan program after eligibility. Discretionary bonuses are non-guaranteed and depend on individual and firm performance.
