As a strategist and storyteller, you will be responsible for distilling complex concepts into clear, compelling narratives, whether crafting a pitch for a journalist or developing content for our newsroom. This role demands a proactive approach to the evolving landscape of communications, embracing experimentation with AI tools to enhance work efficiency and creativity, not to replace core writing instincts.
You'll leverage AI to work smarter, not just faster, understanding its potential to assist with first drafts, brainstorm story angles, and improve areas like media monitoring or content creation. We encourage you to bring your ideas for how AI can further enhance our communications efforts.
As Lead Marketer, Communications, your primary responsibility will be to articulate the HubSpot story across both corporate and product narratives. This includes managing announcements, developing thought leadership content, orchestrating crisis responses, and handling critical communications moments. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, you will play a pivotal role in shaping public perception of HubSpot's mission and impact.
What You'll Actually Do
- Write Engaging Content: Produce a variety of external communications including press releases, blog posts, social media content, talking points, and scripts, ensuring all content effectively represents HubSpot.
- Cultivate Media Relationships: Build authentic, reciprocal relationships with journalists that go beyond generic pitches, fostering connections where reporters actively engage with your communications.
- Drive Major Initiatives: Lead the strategy development and execution for significant events such as our annual INBOUND conference and key product spotlights.
- Navigate Challenges with Poise: Be prepared to respond to crises or emerging issues with a calm, strategic, and decisive approach, ensuring rapid yet responsible action.
- Optimize Comms Team Processes: Collaborate closely with a lean team to streamline and improve internal communications workflows and organization.
- Innovate and Adapt: Continuously experiment with new communication approaches and AI tools, sharing insights on both successful strategies and areas for improvement.
What You Bring
- Extensive Experience: Over 10 years of corporate or B2B communications experience, with a demonstrable track record of media success and compelling storytelling.
- Exceptional Writing Prowess: Ability to transform intricate subjects into clear, captivating narratives, distinguishing between corporate jargon and effective communication.
- Media Savvy: Strong instincts for identifying newsworthy stories, effective pitching strategies, and established relationships with key reporters.
- Organizational Excellence: Proven ability to manage multiple projects, track performance metrics, and implement systems that enhance team productivity.
- Public Company Acumen (Plus): Understanding of the specific communication considerations inherent in a publicly traded company.
- AI Curiosity: A genuine interest in and active experimentation with AI tools to augment communications work, coupled with informed opinions on their efficacy.
- Comfort with Ambiguity: Capacity to thrive and innovate in situations lacking a predefined playbook, embracing new approaches.
