Role Summary

The Data Infrastructure group powers that mission by delivering fast, reliable product experiences at scale for hundreds of thousands of users. As Director of Engineering, you’ll lead a critical organization focused on core data systems and processing, shaping the infrastructure that enables 170+ product teams to build and scale with confidence. You’ll define the technical vision and guide teams building the foundation of HubSpot’s platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a high-impact organization of ~35 engineers, directly overseeing three Engineering Leaders and one Tech Lead across HBase, Processing (Kafka/Streaming), MySQL/Vitess, and Caching & Coordination.
  • Drive technical vision by defining the roadmap for core data stores (HBase, MySQL/Vitess) and processing engines (Kafka, Streaming, Batch) to meet the demands of a business scaling to 100 billion messages a day.
  • Enable 170+ autonomous product teams to leverage datastores-as-a-service with simplicity, speed, and reliability.
  • Pioneer agentic infrastructure by leading the shift toward an “agentic” model, where customers interact with intelligent agents to manage complex, high-risk systems.
  • Ensure strong data governance by leading compliance, privacy, encryption, and proactive risk management practices, including HIPAA-aligned standards.
  • Foster technical excellence by coaching and mentoring teams on high-level software design and technical strategy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to build strong relationships from individual contributors to executives, aligning infrastructure strategy with business needs.

  • Deep technical expertise in data storage and processing at scale, with comfort engaging in architecture discussions across systems like HBase, Vitess, and Kafka.

Pay & Benefits

The cash compensation below includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are tailored to your skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
