Role Overview: Digital Forensics Engineer

The Digital Forensics Engineer works at the Digital & Information Forensics Centre of Expertise. The role involves leveraging cutting-edge technology and a multi-disciplinary approach to maximise evidence recovery and analysis, thereby providing fast and actionable leads for investigations.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Research open-source investigations and cloud sources to support forensic examinations.
  • Develop platforms, tools, algorithms and techniques for digital evidence collection and analysis.
  • Collaborate with forensic examiners and investigators to integrate tools into workflows.
  • Evaluate, review, prototype, test and enhance forensic tools and processes.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends in digital forensics, cloud platforms and technology.
  • Oversee vendor projects related to proof of concept implementations.

What We Are Looking For

Candidates should hold a tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related discipline. Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following is advantageous:

  • Cloud technologies and architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Open-source investigation techniques
  • Programming and scripting languages, particularly Python
  • Network and log file forensics
  • Cybersecurity best practices
  • Project management using agile methodology
  • Basic understanding of UI/UX principles

Note: All new appointees will be on a two-year contract. Shortlisted candidates may need to undergo a medical declaration or further assessment.
