Assistant Manager - Procurement
As an Assistant Manager - Procurement, you will be crucial in ensuring seamless plant operations through meticulous end-to-end MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) procurement. This involves the strategic sourcing of engineering spares, consumables, and essential services to prevent any interruptions.
You will also be responsible for managing the sale of PVC/CPVC scrap, focusing on transparency and maximizing recovery for the company. A key aspect of your role will be driving supplier audits and implementing procurement excellence initiatives aimed at enhancing cost efficiency, quality standards, and overall process effectiveness.
Roles And Responsibility
Your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of procurement activities:
- Source and procure a wide array of spares for extrusion lines, injection molding machines, utilities, and various plant equipment.
- Purchase electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic spares, tools, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and general maintenance consumables.
- Efficiently manage Request for Quotations (RFQs), lead negotiations, finalize Purchase Orders (POs), and meticulously follow up on deliveries.
- Provide critical support for urgent breakdown requirements, ensuring timely procurement to minimize operational downtime.
- Actively develop alternate suppliers and spearhead cost-saving and value engineering initiatives to optimize expenditure.
- Manage Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) for critical equipment such as compressors, DG sets, HVAC systems, utilities, and lab equipment.
- Oversee the handling and sale of various types of scrap, including PVC, CPVC, molding, grinder, packaging, and metal scrap.
- Prepare scrap lots, conduct auctions/e-tenders, and ensure strict compliance with GST regulations and required documentation.
- Monitor scrap lifting and weighment processes, ensuring timely payments are received.
- Benchmark market rates to maximize scrap realization and revenue.
- Conduct thorough supplier audits, evaluating capability, quality systems, safety protocols, and delivery performance.
- Maintain comprehensive supplier scorecards and initiate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) with underperforming suppliers.
- Support vendor onboarding processes and ensure full compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) as well as statutory requirements.
- Assist in both internal and external procurement audits.
- Maintain detailed procurement trackers, savings reports, supplier audit records, and scrap sale Management Information Systems (MIS).
- Ensure full compliance with ERP systems, specifically SAP.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Overall 8-10 years of experience in procurement.
- An educational qualification of BE/B.Tech/B.Com/MBA.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting supplier audits and ensuring compliance.
- A solid understanding of scrap handling processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of contracts and legal compliance pertaining to procurement.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using procurement software and tools, including ERP systems (like SAP) and e-sourcing platforms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to support plant teams, including operations, quality, stores, and safety departments.
- A track record of effective vendor issue resolution.
- Capability to coordinate seamlessly with plant teams (operations, quality, stores, safety) for smooth activity completion.
