Job Description
Field Service Engineer
Howden, a Chart Industries company, is seeking a highly technical and professional Field Service Engineer to deliver exceptional service to our customers, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality. The goal is to achieve on-time, in-full, on-schedule, and right-first-time service delivery. This role involves providing on-site technical assistance to customers during the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems, requiring expert knowledge in these areas.
Customer Relationship Management
You will develop and manage strong customer relationships through professional customer management. This includes providing a full engineering service and support to both internal and external customers. You are expected to foster exceptional relationships through technical capability and personal interaction.
Product Support
As part of our expanding Service and Aftermarket portfolio, you will also provide service support for non-company products of a similar nature. You will act as an ambassador for Howden, representing the business with professionalism and enthusiasm.
Travel and Flexibility
This role requires extensive travel within the United Kingdom, including overnight stays, often at short notice. A flexible approach to working patterns is essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a thorough understanding of customer requirements before site visits.
- Foster effective relationships within the Service and Aftermarket team and the wider organization.
- Provide technical support to colleagues and contribute to the broader technical support team assisting customers.
- Generate detailed Site Reports adhering to required standards, highlighting necessary actions and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain regular communication with the Field Service team.
- Conduct yourself professionally, reflecting the responsibilities of the position and the company image.
- Supervise Company or Customer-supplied Technicians, ensuring their safety, site activities, and discipline.
- Act with diligence to protect the Company's commercial and warranty liabilities.
- Develop installation, maintenance, and overhaul schedules.
- Adhere to health and safety procedures and complete required Risk Assessments on site.
- Support customer and internal training activities to educate staff on equipment operation and maintenance.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A strong mechanical background, preferably with experience in gas engines or diesel generators.
- Proven experience working on Jenbacher, Cummins, MTU, MWM, MAN, or CAT engines, with relevant commissioning certification.
- Hands-on mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to produce detailed site activity reports and recommendations.
- Capacity to supervise others during installation, commissioning, maintenance, and training.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A good understanding of business and commercial aspects relevant to the role.
- Awareness of health and safety in the workplace.
