About Houston Graduate School of Theology (HGST)

HGST is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Payable Specialist to join our finance team. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the company’s financial integrity by ensuring accurate and timely processing of all vendor payments. Key Objectives

  • Manage and process accounts payable transactions efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships through timely communication and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Support month-end closing activities and maintain compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to streamline payment processes and improve overall financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Review, verify, and process invoices, expense reports, and payment requests in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensure timely payment of vendor invoices while maintaining accurate records for audit purposes.
  • Reconcile accounts payable ledger to ensure all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies, payment issues, and inquiries.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and reporting.
  • Maintain and update vendor files and payment documentation.
  • Collaborate with procurement and other departments to verify purchase orders and contract compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve accounts payable processes and controls.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
  • 2+ years of experience in accounts payable or related finance role.
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable processes, invoicing, and payment cycles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with vendors and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and internal controls is a plus.
