Solution Architect at HM Revenue & Customs
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is seeking a hands-on Integration (Solution) Architect to spearhead the design, build, and evolution of a modern, scalable Integration Platform. This platform is crucial for enabling HMRC's business use cases with speed and efficiency. The role emphasizes practical architecture and delivery, ensuring that all integration solutions are robust, reusable, and perfectly aligned with HMRC's Enterprise Integration standards and open architecture principles.
This position demands thought leadership across iPaaS, Event Streaming, and API Management. The Solution Architect will play a critical role in translating integration strategy into successful, on-the-ground delivery through close engagement with engineering teams and external suppliers.
Core Integration Capabilities
The Integration Architect will lead architecture and delivery across the following key areas:
- iPaaS (Integration Platform as a Service): Experience with platforms such as Boomi, MuleSoft, or equivalent.
- Event Streaming Platforms: Expertise in technologies like Confluent Kafka, MSK, or equivalent.
- API Management: Proficiency with platforms such as Kong, Apigee, APIDA, or equivalent.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve modern, scalable iPaaS platform patterns that effectively support HMRC's diverse business and digital use cases.
- Provide hands-on guidance, coaching, and constructive challenge to both internal engineering teams and external suppliers to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Proactively identify opportunities and shape the integration platform in close collaboration with Business Analysts and Engineering teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by actively promoting API-led, event-driven, and cloud-native integration approaches throughout the organization.
Experience & Skills
- A minimum of 5+ years of demonstrable experience in delivering enterprise-scale integration or transformation programmes.
- Strong hands-on experience in designing and delivering robust solutions using various iPaaS, event streaming, and API management platforms.
- Proven experience operating effectively within Agile delivery environments.
- The ability to expertly balance strategic thinking with practical, hands-on delivery leadership.
- Recognised thought leader in modern integration practices, including deep understanding of event-driven architectures, observability, DevSecOps, and full API lifecycle management.
- Public or private sector experience is equally welcomed for this role.
