The Opportunity: Data Analyst

This is an exciting 6-month contract opportunity to join HMRC’s Insider Risk Mitigation Team (IRMT). The team drives continuous improvement in personnel security to reduce the risk of 'insiders' exploiting legitimate access to HMRC's assets. A valid SC Clearance is a mandatory requirement for this role.

Role Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis: Analyze multiple datasets and databases to identify patterns, extract insights and metrics, and develop effective solutions for operational delivery.
  • Strategic Awareness: Maintain understanding of HMRC priorities and remain alert to emerging issues and trends impacting your area.
  • Systems and Service Management: Develop, implement, maintain, and review systems and services to ensure high performance and professional excellence.
  • Risk Identification and Issue Management: Promptly identify risks, efficiently raise issues, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to develop practical improvements.
  • Leadership and Empowerment: Understand your responsibilities, empower others, and foster a culture of accountability.
  • Evidence-Based Decision Making: Utilize credible internal and external information to support decisions, encourage constructive challenge, and involve others appropriately.

Essential Criteria

To succeed as a Data Analyst within the IRMT, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Holds current and valid National Security Vetting at SC-level (minimum).
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to analyze complex datasets, identify patterns, extract metrics, and apply structured problem-solving to assess insider risks and support decision-making.
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent at conveying complex information, producing high-quality written reports, engaging stakeholders, and managing expectations. Experience in leading or contributing to workshops is vital.
  • Strategic Awareness: Capable of understanding organizational priorities, anticipating trends and risks, and assessing their impact.
  • Systems and Service Management: Experience in developing, maintaining, reviewing, and improving systems and services to achieve high standards.
  • Risk Identification and Issue Management: Demonstrated capability to identify risks early, raise issues promptly, and collaborate on practical improvements.
  • Evidence-Based Decision Making: Proficient in gathering, analyzing, and using credible information for decision-making, fostering challenge, and involving others.
  • Organisation and Delivery: Strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities, maintain momentum, and deliver under minimal supervision.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Ability to build productive relationships and support collaboration across teams involved in insider risk.
  • Proficient IT Skills: Expert user of O365 and Power Platform suite for analysis, reporting, and operational delivery.
  • Customer Focus: Committed to delivering high-quality services and meeting stakeholder needs.
