About The Web Developer Role
We are seeking a skilled Web Developer to join our team on a hybrid basis to support and enhance the digital presence of our client, Arizona State Parks & Trails (AZSTATEPARKS). This role involves maintaining and improving the high-traffic website azstateparks.com, which attracts over 14 million visitors annually. The Web Developer will play a crucial role in ensuring the website’s accessibility, performance, and functionality meet the highest standards, particularly focusing on WCAG 2.2 compliance. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on a government-facing website that impacts millions of users while collaborating with a dedicated team of IT professionals, content creators, and external vendors such as Tyler Technologies. The role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment, with a focus on accessibility, system stability, and user experience.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with HTML and CSS, demonstrating a strong foundation in front-end development.
- Hands-on experience with JavaScript, including responsive web design techniques.
- Familiarity with backend development and API integration, particularly with Node.js and SQL databases.
- Experience working with version control systems such as Git.
- Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and best practices for web accessibility.
- Experience with web performance optimization and security protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
- Experience working with content management systems, preferably with custom CMS solutions developed by Tyler Technologies.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and third-party vendors.
- Must be a local Arizona candidate and currently reside within the state, with the ability to attend in-person interviews and start within two weeks of an offer.
Responsibilities
- Utilize Acquia Optimize and other accessibility scanning tools such as Level Access to identify and prioritize website issues related to accessibility and quality.
- Implement fixes in accordance with WCAG 2.2 A & AA standards within the CMS, ensuring compliance and enhanced user experience for all visitors.
- Address and resolve broken links, images, and other technical issues to maintain website integrity and usability.
- Compile and document issues requiring intervention from Tyler Technologies, coordinating with their team for timely resolutions.
- Monitor ongoing accessibility improvements and recommend additional enhancements to ensure continuous compliance and performance.
- Coordinate with Tyler Technologies on system releases, updates, and post-release validation to ensure stability and functionality.
- Assist in performance optimization efforts to improve website speed, responsiveness, and security.
- Collaborate with the Communications, Research & Marketing team to implement content updates and design enhancements.
- Maintain detailed records of technical issues, resolutions, and ongoing improvement plans to support transparency and accountability.
