About the Role of Acute Care Surgeon

We are actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Acute Care Surgeon to join a well-established Trauma and Acute Care Surgery team in Corvallis, Oregon. This is a full-time, hospital-employed position offering a 0.8 FTE, permanent employment opportunity. The successful candidate will collaborate with a group of four seasoned surgeons, providing exceptional trauma care and advancing surgical practices through education and innovation. The role focuses exclusively on managing trauma cases, with no elective procedures, within a dedicated trauma/acute care surgery environment.

The position offers a balanced schedule comprising 70 trauma shifts per year, including 24-hour trauma coverage, along with approximately 50 weekday 10-hour rounding shifts, promoting a comprehensive work-life balance. The hospital features a 20-bed ICU and is designated as a Level II Trauma Center, offering a dynamic and challenging environment for a passionate trauma surgeon. Integral to this role are opportunities to teach surgical residents and medical students, fostering the next generation of surgical professionals. The hospital utilizes EPIC EMR and is supported by a strong multidisciplinary team and extensive hospital resources, ensuring clinicians have the tools necessary to deliver high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery, with a Surgical Critical Care fellowship required. Candidates should have between 3 to 5 years of trauma and acute care experience, demonstrating a solid foundation in managing complex trauma cases. Certification in ATLS and BCLS is mandatory, reflecting a commitment to maintaining high standards in trauma response and patient safety. Eligibility to work in the United States is a prerequisite. A passion for trauma care, teaching, and innovation in surgical technology is highly valued, along with strong communication and teamwork skills to thrive in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive trauma and acute care surgical services within the hospital’s designated trauma center. This involves managing trauma patients from initial assessment through definitive care, including resuscitation, operative intervention, and critical care management. The surgeon will participate in scheduled trauma shifts, providing 24-hour coverage, and perform rounding duties during weekday hours. Teaching responsibilities encompass mentoring surgical residents and medical students, fostering their clinical skills and knowledge in trauma surgery. The role also involves engaging in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of protocols and procedures to enhance patient outcomes. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams such as emergency medicine, radiology, anesthesia, and nursing is essential for delivering coordinated, high-quality care. The surgeon is expected to stay current with advancements in trauma and surgical technology, actively participating in continuing medical education (CME) activities. Additionally, maintaining compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and documentation protocols is critical for operational excellence.

Benefits

Our client offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary with performance-based incentives. Relocation assistance is available to facilitate a smooth transition, and there is potential for loan repayment programs. The position includes paid malpractice insurance and a generous CME allowance to support ongoing professional development.
