Job Summary

The Registered Nurse - Out Patient is primarily responsible for performing telephone triage for an outpatient office. This role involves assisting with the implementation of provider orders by overseeing prescription refills, ordering tests, and arranging referrals. Key responsibilities also include performing patient intake history, providing essential patient teaching and counseling, administering medications, assisting in various procedures as necessary, and ensuring proper documentation. The RN will communicate relevant patient information to providers and manage patient visit scheduling. Limited travel to facilities to assist providers may be expected.

Qualifications

  • Education: Fulfilled the educational requirements to practice as a licensed Registered Nurse in NYS; BSN preferred.
  • Experience: Two years’ experience in direct nursing care in a hospital or community health center, with patients of all ages. Ambulatory care and telephone triage experience preferred. Computer literacy essential.
  • License/Certification Required: Current NYS RN license, current CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers).
  • Skills: Ability to perform under stress of working with people who are ill and may be demanding. Ability to defuse or cope with anger and hostility in others. Effective interpersonal communication and problem solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively and courteously with others. Ability to cope with ambiguity in decision making situations and to determine need for care immediacy.
