Are you excited about leading and taking responsibility for large entities? We are looking for a Director to be responsible for the overall facilities services of the sector.

Key Responsibilities

As the Director of Facilities, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, development, and management of the facilities used by the education and culture sector. In this role, you will lead the expert organization of facilities services and ensure that the operational and financial facility solutions are suitable for learners of all ages and for resident use. As a leader, you will collaborate extensively with facility users and various city organizations and stakeholders in, among other things, facility projects and rentals, project management, service network planning, and regional development projects. In addition, your tasks will include preparing presentations and statements for decision-making by top management, and acting as a presenter in management groups and as an expert in the meetings of the education and culture committee.

You will lead the learning environments planning services for approximately 30 experts, which is divided into three sub-units: service network, facility projects, and safety services units. As the head of the service, you will lead operations, personnel, and finances, be responsible for achieving results and goals, and for developing operations.

Learning environments planning services are responsible for defining the sector's service facility needs, developing the service network, and renting and contract management of resident use facilities. In addition, learning environments planning services are responsible for the guidance, development, and support of the functionality and loose furnishings of facility project planning. The service is partly responsible for promoting and coordinating the sector's safety matters. In addition, guiding preparedness and continuity in the sector also belongs to learning environments planning services.

Your work will clearly reflect the cornerstones of Helsinki City's leadership: vision, coherence, enthusiasm, and execution capability. Your work is guided by our sector's leadership promise, which is built around community-driven leadership, responsibility, and locality.

What We Offer

  • You will get to develop Helsinki's learning environments far into the future and work in a competent and enthusiastic expert community.
  • By working together, we will find the best solutions for our customers.
  • You will be part of the active and collaborative management group of the sector's common services, composed of top professionals.
  • We offer comprehensive employment benefits, such as commuting, sports, and lunch benefits.
  • You have access to great workspaces in Kalasatama.

Prerequisites for Success

We require experience in facility planning and construction. In addition, you have the ability to manage a broad facility network and investments cost-effectively in the long term and to connect facility solutions to the core task of the sector - supporting learning and upbringing. You have good leadership and supervisory skills, the ability for independent decision-making, and goal-oriented action, taking into account even large entities. We require excellent cooperation and negotiation skills and the ability to function smoothly in a municipal organization.

The eligibility requirement for the position is a suitable higher education degree, management experience, and excellent oral and written skills in Finnish, good skills in English, and satisfactory skills in Swedish.
