Role Overview
The Assistant Professor of Mathematics role seeks professionals with advanced expertise in pure mathematics to contribute to AI systems’ training through high-quality annotations and problem-solving in abstract math fields such as algebra, analysis, topology, and graph theory.
You will collaborate with technical teams to enhance annotation tools, design mathematical tasks, and provide detailed feedback on AI-generated solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Label, annotate, and evaluate mathematical data using proprietary tools.
- Contribute to AI training for improved reasoning over pure math domains.
- Collaborate with technical teams to refine annotation tools and workflows.
- Select and create challenging problems in areas like algebra, analysis, topology, and graph theory.
- Evaluate AI model outputs and offer detailed improvement feedback.
- Interpret evolving task instructions with accuracy and professional judgment.
Ideal Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Mathematics focusing on pure math or major math competition achievements.
- Strong formal and informal English proficiency.
- Skilled in using academic databases and mathematical literature.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Independent work capability with sound judgment in limited context situations.
- Passion for technological innovation and advancing AI research.
Preferred Background
- PhD in Mathematics with a focus on pure mathematics.
- Peer-reviewed mathematical publications.
- Experience in teaching mathematics or mentoring at the college level.
- Background in AI training, tutoring, or technical writing.
Work Environment
This position is based in Palo Alto, CA with a fully in-office option (5 days a week) or can be fully remote with strong self-management skills. U.S.-based applicants must reside outside Wyoming and Illinois. Typical hours are 9:00am–5:30pm PST during training, with subsequent hours aligning with the local timezone. Remote candidates require a compatible computer and reliable smartphone access.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive pay ranging from $90,000 to $200,000 annually based on experience and location. International candidates will have compensation details upon request. Benefits include medical coverage (subject to location) and a supportive environment that advances AI and mathematical reasoning.
