About the Role

This role invites top PhD students, post-docs, and early career professors to push the boundaries of AI reasoning by training large language models to tackle advanced mathematical challenges. As an Assistant Professor of Mathematics in this engagement, you will design graduate-level problems in pure and applied mathematics and evaluate AI-generated solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop original, graduate-level problems in pure and applied mathematics.
  • Closely review and test AI-generated solutions for accuracy.
  • Identify logical flaws and insufficiently rigorous proofs.
  • Provide structured feedback and generate complete, correct solutions.
  • Maintain high standards of mathematical precision.

Required Qualifications

  • Current PhD student, post-doc, or recent PhD graduate (within 5 years) in pure or applied mathematics.
  • Proficiency in LaTeX document preparation.
  • Expertise in algebra, geometry, combinatorics, number theory, analysis, probability or similar fields.
  • Ability to articulate complex reasoning in written form.
  • Independent, reliable work style with rigorous attention to detail.

Project Details

This is a short-term, high-impact research engagement with a commitment of a minimum of 20 hours per week (up to 40 hours). The project length is approximately 10 weeks with potential for extension. The role is remote and offers flexible working hours.

Compensation & Contract Terms

Compensation varies by experience level:

  • $80/hr for early career professors at top US/UK institutions.
  • $70/hr for post-docs & senior PhD students from top institutions globally.
  • $60/hr for 1st & 2nd year PhD students.

Application Process

The process includes a brief interview (20–30 minutes) and a mathematical reasoning test. Weekly payments are made via Stripe Connect under an independent contractor arrangement through Mercor.
