Role Overview
As a Materials Engineering Summer 2026 Intern, you will work with our materials engineering team to develop novel metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites essential for current and future nuclear fusion systems. This 12-week onsite internship in Everett, WA, is an opportunity to enhance your technical skills, collaborate with industry experts, and contribute to shaping the future of clean energy.
What You Will Be Doing
- Assist in research and development of new materials.
- Conduct experiments to test material properties under varied conditions.
- Analyze data to optimize material performance.
- Support material characterization using microscopy, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing.
- Document and report research findings in technical reports and presentations.
- Participate in weekly team meetings and the year-end intern showcase.
Required Skills
- Full-time, onsite availability for 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2026.
- Graduate enrollment in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Fundamental understanding of materials science principles including thermodynamics and mechanics.
- Experience with laboratory techniques and material characterization tools.
- Proficiency in data analysis using MATLAB, Python, or Origin.
Compensation and Benefits
The internship offers a competitive hourly rate (Master's: $30/hour, PhD: $37/hour), a one-time stipend of $5,000, paid holidays, sick time, a wellness stipend, and company/team events.
