About The Job

The Research Associate High Throughput Screening at Helaina supports the Assess and Learn unit of the Early Stage Research & Development team. The candidate will work hands-on in a lab environment to drive high-quality biological data generation essential for innovation.

What You’ll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operate Helaina’s state-of-the-art high throughput screening platform
  • Grow strains in deep-well plates and generate significant biological data
  • Utilize liquid handlers and automation devices to increase throughput, reproducibility and traceability
  • Collaborate with Early Stage R&D team on experiments, troubleshooting, and data analysis
  • Organize and maintain laboratory operations, inventory and equipment
  • Communicate experimental results and maintain detailed records

About You

Qualifications and skills:

  • BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or related fields
  • 1-2 years bench experience in cell culture or fermentation with strong aseptic technique
  • Experience in data analysis and precise execution of protocols
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication and attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to biological innovation in food

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in high throughput screening
  • Knowledge of liquid handler operations (preferably Hamilton)
  • Background in statistics and methods like SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA, and flow cytometry
  • Familiarity with DoE, quality control, and control charting
  • Experience with JMP, Python, R, and/or Benchling
  • Startup experience

Location & Salary

Location: NYC

Salary: $60,000 to $75,000 per year
