About the Role: Inpatient Medical Coder
Health Partners Management Group is seeking experienced Inpatient Medical Coders to join our team. This remote W-2 position involves coding for the federal government, requiring U.S. Citizenship. You will primarily focus on the initial coding process and abstracting data from medical records, both paper and electronic.

Key Responsibilities
- Accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient facility and professional services, including inpatient stays, surgical procedures, dental surgical procedures, anesthesia services, and ancillary service encounters.
- Ensure correct assignment of DRGs for inpatient stays and discharges, along with Relative Weighted Product (RWP) and Relative Value Units (RVUs).
- Potentially assist with ambulatory and outpatient coding, requiring experience in outpatient, APV, and Emergency Department settings.
- Assign accurate ICD diagnoses, CPT, and HCPCS codes, modifiers, and quantities from medical record documentation (paper or electronic) for inpatient professional services (Rounds and Profee coding).
- Train and educate Military Clinic/MTF staff on coding issues and actively participate in coding compliance activities.
- Research and resolve coding edit failures as assigned.
Required Certifications
Candidates must provide proof of active certification(s) from the following list:
- CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder)
- CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
- COC (Certified Outpatient Coder)
- RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
- RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)
Qualifying Specialties Include
- Inpatient hospitalization stays/Pro Fee
- Major/Minor surgical procedures
- Dental surgical procedures
- Anesthesia services
- Outpatient primary encounters/procedures
- Outpatient specialty encounters/procedures
- Emergency Department
- Observation
- Same Day Surgery (APV)
Please note: Billing, Denial Management, Radiology/Laboratory, and HCC coding are NOT considered qualifying for this role.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of five (5) years of inpatient medical coding and/or auditing experience in two (2) or more medical, surgical, and ancillary specialties within the past 10 years; OR
- A minimum of three (3) years of inpatient medical coding or auditing experience if that experience was in a Military Treatment Facility (MTF).
- A minimum of one (1) year of performance in the specialty is required to be documented to be considered qualifying. Your resume must clearly reflect all relevant experience, including MTF experience if applicable.
