Job Description

About the Role: Senior Train Control Designer/Specialist Primary

The demand for public transport is growing due to urbanization, climate change, and evolving transportation usage. As a Senior Train Control Designer/Specialist Primary, you will work with your team to design solutions and guide their implementation, striving for a balance between people, functionality, safety, sustainability, and cost.

You will be ultimately responsible for the entire design process within the train control technical field for larger multidisciplinary projects. Your responsibilities include training new colleagues, developing design plans, and contributing to tender processes. You will collaborate closely with project managers to ensure successful project realization and share responsibility for the growth and development of the Rail Business Unit.

Furthermore, as a Senior Train Control Designer or Specialist, you will be certified for several primary critical core tasks (KKTs), including:

  • Collating OBE and OR sheets & SVA (KKT 2);
  • Primary Collating (KKT3);
  • Approving Test and Commissioning Plans (KKT 7);
  • Approving Safety Test Programs (KKT 8);
  • Executing Safety Test Programs (KKT 9);
  • Leading Testing and Commissioning (KKT 10).

Where You Will Work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent consultancy firm that combines engineering, design, and advisory services with software and technology. Our mission, “Enhancing Society Together,” drives us to create a positive global impact.

We offer challenging work on diverse international projects, leveraging over 140 years of expertise. With more than 6,800 employees across over 25 countries, we collectively transform challenges into opportunities to make a positive societal impact. We collaborate with leading clients in markets such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, industrial decarbonization, and sustainable mobility.

Haskoning has ambitious goals within the Rail market. We aim to further develop as an integrated engineering firm, generating value for our clients through our contributions to complex, challenging, and inspiring projects. A wide variety of projects and clients ensures that every day is different, and collaboration with other Haskoning disciplines is standard practice. Within Haskoning, approximately 200 employees work in rail infrastructure and station development—a dynamic sector driven by positive market developments. Notable projects include the Delft railway tunnel, the Extra Express Train Groningen Leeuwarden, Zwolle Spoort, and Tramline 19 in Delft.

As a Train Control Specialist, you will work in a versatile team with short communication lines and close collaboration. There is ample room for personal initiative and a positive work atmosphere where collegiality and development are key factors. Design and practical application are closely linked, with many designers regularly participating in on-site testing activities.

What You Bring

You are capable of fulfilling the role of a design leader and possess sufficient knowledge of other rail infrastructure disciplines to manage interfaces effectively. You have years of design experience, along with:

  • A completed university (WO) or higher professional education (HBO) degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Technical Physics, or a comparable field;
  • Multiple KKT certifications in the primary domain;
  • Knowledge of various specialized train control systems;
  • Extensive experience with project commissioning;
  • Strong analytical skills and a pragmatic approach.

Additionally, you can create and maintain an overview of complex situations and projects, are a team player, and are results-oriented. You take initiative, work accurately, and enjoy performing on-site test work several weekends per year.
