Senior Preconstruction Engineering Specialist at Harris
As a Senior Preconstruction Engineering Specialist at Harris, your primary role is to manage preconstruction engineering activities, aiming to enhance project delivery for both customers and the company. You will be instrumental in initiating and influencing preconstruction outcomes, fostering collaboration between design and engineering teams and construction operations. Effective communication across all project stakeholders is crucial to manage risks, maintain quality, ensure timely delivery, and achieve project goals.
Preconstruction Engineering
You will coordinate and execute preconstruction engineering activities for assigned projects, covering aspects such as scheduling, estimating, bidding, and design + engineering. Your responsibilities include:
- Overseeing and facilitating design-related tasks, including reviews, reports, studies, and construction administration.
- Actively participating in preconstruction and design meetings with owners, architects, and other design professionals, and preparing timely meeting minutes.
- Applying activities to meet the demands of various project delivery methods.
- Coordinating with other Harris teams to manage technical issue logs, cost and schedule trending, and materials/equipment procurement.
- Preparing presentations and reports on preconstruction progress and construction team briefings.
- Supporting business development proposals and pursuits.
- Contributing to the advancement of tools and IT solutions for the wider preconstruction effort.
- Managing and utilizing software tools like AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks for quantity studies, constructability studies, clash detection, and value engineering.
- Supporting design studio teams in creating and preparing design packages.
- Developing expertise in preconstruction processes that differentiate Harris.
- Creating and utilizing tools and dashboards to automate Preconstruction activities.
- Working with Project Managers to develop budgeting and report-out tools for client communication.
- Recommending Preconstruction best practices to support project goals.
- Supporting and driving prefabrication design efforts throughout Preconstruction and ensuring constructability.
- Identifying and driving resolution for issues and project risks during Preconstruction.
Execution And Delivery
Your involvement extends to the execution and delivery phase, where you will:
- Actively and regularly track, manage, and communicate project scope, schedule impacts, change orders, and budget trends.
- Monitor and report on preconstruction concepts with project teams to verify the value of Preconstruction activities and recommendations.
- Collaborate on delivering preconstruction briefings to construction teams.
- Support project managers during the build phase on Preconstruction elements, including risk management, value engineering findings, estimation, and constructability reports.
- Check-in with prefab shops, estimating, and scheduling teams to support construction as the build progresses.
- Collect and collate lessons learned upon project completion for comparison with Preconstruction briefing packs.
- Ensure all Preconstruction and construction phase data is stored appropriately for future use and distribution.
Develop Preconstruction Skills Across The Company
You will play a role in fostering understanding of preconstruction engineering processes across Harris to ensure optimal project delivery.

What We're Looking For In You
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.
- 6+ years of industry knowledge in mechanical and plumbing.
- 4+ years of knowledge in corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies, techniques, and construction contracts.
- 6+ years of proficient understanding of engineering and technology, including principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment.
- 4+ years of successful experience in delivering pre-construction engineering solutions.
