The Role: Technical Consultant

SmartWorks is actively seeking a talented and motivated Technical Consultant who adeptly balances business knowledge with strong technical and interpersonal skills. This role involves direct interaction with customers, development teams, and third-party software vendors. Key responsibilities include gathering and documenting requirements, deploying applications, and providing essential implementation support and training.

This position offers remote work flexibility across Canada and the US. While primarily remote, approximately 30% travel throughout North America may be required for customer engagements when safe and appropriate. Candidates preferring an office environment also have the option to work from our corporate headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. A valid passport/visa is required for travel.

What Your Impact Will Be

• Gather requirements, design, and implement solutions using SmartWorks' application suite.
• Integrate SmartWorks' application suite with third-party software interfaces.
• Develop and maintain project documentation, standard operating procedures, and other necessary documentation.
• Lead or assist in training sessions for SmartWorks' customers and provide comprehensive implementation support.
• Act as a key liaison between SmartWorks, customers, third-party vendors, and industry consultants.
• Build a deep knowledge of Smart Metering infrastructure and best practices for data analysis.
• Provide the Project Manager with regular updates on progress, issues, ideas for resolution, and successes.

What We Are Looking For

• College diploma or University degree in a related technical field (e.g., Electric or Computer Engineering, Computer Science).
• Strong grasp of SQL and one or more Enterprise Database Software (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle).
• Comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments.
• Ability to travel in North America up to 30% of the time, with a valid passport/visa.
• Previous experience in the Utilities industry.

What Would Make You Stand Out

• 3+ years of relevant work experience in software implementation.
• Strong working knowledge of object-oriented design (C/C++ or Java).
• Previous experience in training customers and writing technical documents.
