Overview
Reporting to the Senior Editor, this position is responsible for soliciting, acquiring, and developing authors and books for the Intrigue romance publishing program. The role involves working with the editorial team and marketing to develop the publishing strategy.
Responsibilities
Editorial Quality: The Editor works with the author base to acquire manuscripts that fit the publishing strategy, reads both solicited and unsolicited submissions, negotiates contracts, monitors author payments, and develops new authors to publication standard. They perform various editorial functions including proposal evaluation, providing revisions, and line editing, as well as overseeing copy editing and author changes. The role also requires staying aware of the competitive marketplace (print and digital), driving innovation, and mentoring junior staff, along with project management of initiative projects.
Product Packaging: Responsible for writing and reviewing back cover copy to ensure a saleable product package. The Editor provides input into packaging design and copy, working closely with the Marketing and Art teams.
Author/Agent Management: This includes maintaining relationships with key authors and agents, developing new talent through mentoring, and representing the program and company at internal/external conferences and in media.
Qualifications
An undergraduate degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in fiction book publishing, with a strong background in acquisitions and editorial work. Excellent communication, writing, and editorial skills are essential along with proven experience in finding, editing, and managing key authors. Candidates must demonstrate strong project management, planning, teamwork, collaboration, negotiation skills, creativity, and an ability to analyze and shape projects for the marketplace. Experience with agents is required and enthusiasm for suspense and thrillers is a plus.

The salary range is $65,000 - $75,000 with flexibility based on experience and skills. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
