About the Role
hackajob is seeking a Technical Manager, Commercial Lines Underwriting, Workers Compensation SME to join Verisk's Underwriting Solutions unit. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in revising and developing comprehensive resources, including technical reports and training curricula. These materials will support a diverse range of internal and external customers, such as sales teams, product developers, risk engineers, insurers, underwriters, loss control professionals, and trade associations, specifically focusing on Workers Compensation, Crime, and Liability insurance.
As a Technical Manager, you will leverage your extensive expertise in current best practices, legal precedents, and subject matter knowledge to guide customers in effectively controlling risk exposures. You will also be responsible for delivering additional services related to customer exposures within your designated purview. Collaboration with key stakeholders across Verisk is essential to maintain consistency and align content strategy with the company's overarching vision, playing a significant part in building a successful and effective knowledge base.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and revise existing technical reports, checklists, and training programs to ensure information remains current and accurate.
- Develop new reports and training programs to support the committed expansion of the knowledge center.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of high-quality, up-to-date, and searchable content tailored for audiences of varying skill levels.
- Facilitate the effective dissemination of knowledge to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Respond to internal inquiries from Verisk field staff regarding specific exposures.
- Provide written responses to external customer consulting requests, assisting them in serving their clients.
- Maintain personal subject matter knowledge currency through continuous education and self-development.
- Assist in keeping Knowledge Center products and research databases up-to-date.
- Work collaboratively with various internal teams, including stakeholders, change management, service teams, trainers, curriculum developers, and subject matter experts, to create relevant and accessible information supporting new and existing products, features, and services.
Qualifications
- 10 to 15 years of extensive experience in commercial insurance, underwriting, and/or risk control engineering across multiple lines of insurance.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related risk engineering or insurance field is preferred; exceptional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Demonstrated awareness and general understanding of technology, including the convergence of software and data, to support straight-through processing.
- Possess strong critical thinking, problem-solving, mentoring, conceptual and innovative thinking, and analytical skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Proven experience in authoring technical reports and effectively responding to customer inquiries.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including strong presentation abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with both internal staff and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable presenting to industry executives while also capable of deep-diving into challenging quantitative problems to meet customer needs.
- Ability to travel 5% - 10%.
