The Role
Black Lotus Labs seeks a Security Engineer (Threat Researcher) to join the Research & Analysis team. The engineer will specialize in crimeware and ransomware threat research, proactively identifying and disrupting adversary infrastructure. The role leverages Lumen’s global visibility and massive compute resources to track advanced threat actors and deliver actionable intelligence to customers.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct integrated threat research using Black Lotus Labs telemetry and third party data.
- Automate detection of attacker tools, techniques, and procedures.
- Act as the Threat Research Subject Matter Expert and mentor team members.
- Collaborate with research teams and external partners to enhance threat hunting operations.
- Deliver expert analysis and strategic insights to leadership and external stakeholders.
- Spearhead thought leadership at conferences and internal briefings.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is fluent in the ransomware attack chain, adversary TTPs, and detection techniques. They must have proven experience in threat hunting, technical security research, and developing threat hunting solutions with Python or equivalent languages. Leadership in technical projects, strong communication, and presentation skills are critical. Experience with malware reverse engineering, incident response, Docker, and big data technologies is a plus.
