About Design at Gusto
The Product Design team at Gusto is a collaborative group of over 80 creative professionals including Design, Research, Writing, Ops, and Front-end Development experts. We work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to create thoughtful and inclusive experiences.
About The Consumer Money Team
The Consumer Money team empowers workers by providing financial tools that enhance income control and confidence. They support millions of users and drive significant ARR, continuously developing multiple product lines that transform how users manage finances.
About The Opportunity
As a Staff Product Designer on Consumer Money, you will shape the future of financial products by creating intuitive, high-quality user experiences. You will work on both 0–1 product development and iterative design, guiding external partners and collaborating with cross-functional teams in Product, Engineering, and BizDev. This role involves influencing strategy, driving alignment, and delivering valuable outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving spaces. Reporting to the Head of Design for New Revenue Streams, your work will directly impact Gusto’s mission to empower small businesses.
Day-to-day Responsibilities
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define a long-term UX vision.
- Shape product strategy, roadmap, OKRs, and priorities through design.
- Conduct research and discovery to understand customer needs.
- Design and ship both new and iterative experiences that deliver value.
- Facilitate and guide design work from external partners.
- Mentor peers and contribute to Gusto’s design community.
- Champion and evolve our design system and platform standards.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of Product Design experience with leadership across teams.
- Experience in designing simple and intuitive solutions in complex domains, ideally in fintech.
- Strong collaboration with PM and Engineering to shape product roadmaps.
- High craft standards with hands-on design execution.
- A holistic thinker who designs cohesive customer journeys.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguity and drive real customer impact.
- Constructive debate and strong opinions held loosely.
- Passion for Gusto’s mission in empowering small businesses.
Compensation & Work Environment
The cash compensation range is $146,000/yr to $183,000/yr in Denver and most remote locations, and $177,000/yr to $222,000/yr in San Francisco, Seattle, & New York. Gusto has office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City with a hybrid work model requiring office attendance 2-3 days per week where applicable. A reliable internet connection is required for remote days.
