Healthcare Technology Consulting - Deputy Project Manager - PMO Support

By leveraging a deep understanding of health system IT operational best practices supported by data, Guidehouse propels IT operational improvement and technology adoption across departments and service lines at client organizations.
The Deputy Project Manager / PMO Support will serve as a key member of the Project Management Office (PMO) for technical projects supporting clients on the Public/Federal side of the firm. This role supports the Program Director and PMO Lead in managing day-to-day operations, coordinating across workstreams, and ensuring timely delivery of milestones.
The Deputy PM will help drive governance, risk management, reporting, and stakeholder engagement across state/federal health organizations and health environments. This role is critical to maintaining momentum, resolving issues, and ensuring alignment across a complex, multi-agency implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Oversight
- Support the PMO Lead in executing the TruePMO℠ methodology, including planning, execution, monitoring, and control activities.
- Maintain integrated master schedules (IMS), risk registers, decision logs, and KPI dashboards.
- Coordinate across functional teams (clinical, technical, training, testing, data migration) to ensure alignment and timely delivery.
- Facitate weekly solution checkpoints, cross-PM touchpoints, and risk management sessions.
- Track deliverables and dependencies across implementation phases and agency stakeholders.
Governance and Stakeholder Engagement
- Participate in governance structures including the Executive Steering Committee, Project Leadership Team, and Functional Teams.
- Prepare briefing materials, meeting agendas, and decision support documentation for governance bodies.
- Escalate risks and issues to appropriate governance levels using structured RACI models.
- Ensure agency priorities are reflected in decision-making and milestone planning.
Reporting and Communications
- Develop and maintain project dashboards, status reports, and executive summaries.
- Coordinate with communications and change management teams to align messaging and stakeholder updates.
- Support readiness reviews, go/no-go assessments, and post-go-live evaluations.
- Ensure transparency and accountability through structured reporting and documentation.
Risk and Issue Management
- Monitor project risks and issues, ensuring mitigation plans are in place and tracked.
- Facilitate issue triage and resolution across vendors, agencies, and internal teams.
- Support change control processes, including impact assessments and documentation.
Surge and Sustainment Planning
- Assist in planning and executing surge staffing for build, testing, training, and go-live phases.
- Coordinate knowledge transfer and stabilization activities post-go-live.
- Support transition planning to operations and maintenance (O&M) teams.
What You Will Do
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 7 years of experience in project management, with at least 3 years in healthcare IT or public sector programs.
- Proven success supporting large-scale EHR implementations.
- Strong understanding of PMO operations, governance, and stakeholder coordination.
- Experience with integrated master scheduling, risk management, and reporting tools.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills.
