Job Description

The Staff Bioinformatics Scientist will work within the bioinformatics group to develop computational models for screening (Shield™) and oncology products (e.g., Guardant360®). The role involves developing, prototyping, and analyzing novel statistical/machine learning models to improve early cancer detection, minimal residual disease detection, longitudinal monitoring of treatment response, and cancer-signal-origin prediction.

  • Develop and analyze statistical/machine learning models.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various teams.
  • Integrate external genomic, epigenomic and proteomic data.
  • Create interactive tools and dashboards.
  • Document code and produce reproducible analyses.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, machine learning or a related field and a minimum of 8 years related experience. Proficiency in Python, R, data visualization, and handling large data lakes is required.

Preferred skills include a background in cancer biology/epigenetics, experience with public datasets (TCGA, ENCODE), Linux command-line and version control (git), and high-performance computing infrastructures.

Additional Information

This full-time role is based in either Palo Alto or San Diego. It follows a hybrid work model, requiring on-site work on specific days for employees within 50 miles of a facility. Salary ranges between $174,700 and $240,250, excluding benefits, bonus, commission, or equity.
