Job Purpose
Are you energized by building advocacy for vaccination strategies in Belgium through the development of scientific partnerships with key External Experts and Scientific Associations? This Field-Based Medical Science Liaison position at GSK could be an ideal opportunity for you.
As a Medical Science Liaison, you will provide an expert interface between GSK Medical Affairs and the external healthcare community on medical topics for vaccines, particularly adult immunization. You will also help ensure the safe and effective use of GSK vaccines through appropriate scientific dialogue.
Through in-field scientific engagement with healthcare providers (HCPs) and external experts (EEs), you foster a more educated healthcare environment by:
- Communicating and engaging in a peer-to-peer discussion with HCPs and EEs on vaccination guidelines and practices and answering scientific questions from healthcare professionals.
- Communicating deep knowledge of GSK data in the context of overall patient care to ensure evidence-based understanding of the science behind GSK vaccines.
- Gathering valuable insights on GSK products and services, and on medical and scientific information to better understand patient needs and evidence gaps.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in one-to-one scientific dialogue with external experts around GSK’s vaccines, enabling them to confidently discuss with patients and the wider medical community and ensuring they are knowledgeable in identifying the right patient to help protect against infectious diseases.
- Act as an expert speaker at scientific events to disseminate information to larger groups of healthcare providers while stimulating clinical dialogue to gain different views and perspectives.
- Respond to unsolicited requests for Medical Information from healthcare providers in a fair, factual, balanced, and scientifically rigorous manner via the appropriate and preferred channel.
- Act as the interface between the professional healthcare community and the internal GSK medical team and its affiliates to bring in value-added insights that inform GSK Medical, Commercial, and Research & Development activities.
- Drive and execute the field engagement plan to achieve goals in line with strategic plans.
- Identify External Experts (EEs) who are professionals, decision-makers, and other stakeholders in specific disease areas (e.g., HCPs, Pharmacists, Patient groups).
- Gather scientific and clinical insights and unmet medical needs from HCPs to secure advice that informs GSK's strategy and development of medicines and vaccines for the ultimate benefit of patients.
- Use field insight to optimize effective and impactful Medical Affairs planning in collaboration with the Medical Affairs Managers.
- Chair, facilitate, and present as an internal expert during meetings/seminars.
- Foster a collaborative working relationship with Commercial colleagues.
- Partner with matrix colleagues (e.g., sales, marketing, market access, etc.) to ensure strategies and business plans are both patient and business focused on adding value to the external experts.
- Support clinical development activities by participating in the site identification and assessment process, addressing subject retention and other scientific issues, and engaging with investigators of GSK clinical studies in partnership with study management and monitoring.
- Act as the trainer and medical/scientific expert for GSK sales representatives and commercial colleagues regarding GSK vaccines.
- Maintain a level of expertise in the evolving scientific/therapeutic area and in competitor products.
- Attend scientific meetings and congresses to keep abreast of the evolving science in a therapy area and to confidently debate and discuss the science with external experts as presented at the meeting.
- Fully understand and comply with GSK standards and policies and with local codes of practice, guidelines, and laws to ensure the strictest requirements are met.

Basic Qualifications:
- Higher degree in life sciences: PhD, MSc, or equivalent, and/or other professional healthcare provision qualification with experience (e.g., physician, surgeon, physiotherapist, or pharmacist).
- A significant (e.g., 2 years) amount of pharmaceutical industry experience in a role successfully engaging in scientific exchange with external experts.
- Experience interpreting and communicating scientific data and statistics.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent in Dutch and in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of life sciences field (pharmacology, biology, clinical, specified disease/therapeutic area).
- Knowledge of clinical development process and statistics.
- Experience in Infectious Disease, vaccines, or immunology.
- French language proficiency.
- Strong academic background having participated in, or led, research projects and authored publications.
