Job Description

About Groupon

Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services every day, and local businesses thrive. We have collaborated with over a million merchant partners worldwide, connecting more than 16 million customers with deals across various categories. In an e-commerce landscape often dominated by giants, Groupon distinguishes itself as a platform uniquely dedicated to supporting local businesses on a performance basis.

Groupon is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by a relentless pursuit of results. Despite having thousands of employees spread across multiple continents, we foster a culture that encourages innovation, rewards calculated risks, and celebrates achievements. The scale and speed of our transformation mean that individual contributions can have an immediate and substantial impact. We offer the best of both worlds: a company large enough to provide resources and scale, yet agile enough for individuals to have significant autonomy and make a meaningful difference.

The Opportunity

Groupon connects millions of customers with local merchants, and the quality of this connection begins with the merchant experience. This role focuses on the entire early merchant funnel, from landing page to sign-on, deal launch, and GP30, where durable value is built and inefficient processes are eliminated.

We are fully committed to AI-native, automation-forward workflows designed to reduce friction, expedite merchant activation, and achieve measurable business impact—not just 'strategic initiatives,' but tangible results quantifiable in dollars.

This is not a role for maintaining existing roadmaps; it’s about building, testing, and proving new solutions.

What You'll Own

Full-Funnel Ownership: Landing Pages to Product Activation

You will own the entire early merchant funnel, encompassing category-aligned landing pages, sign-up processes, onboarding, deal launch, and product activation. This means comprehensive ownership without gaps or handoff confusion. You will rapidly design, ship, and iterate on UI/UX flows, conducting controlled experiments with real merchants. Impact will be validated through both qualitative feedback and hard metrics. You will collaborate closely with design and engineering to productionize successful solutions, quickly iterate on what doesn't work, and eliminate ideas that fail to move outcomes.

Sales Partnership & Lead Flow Optimization

You will work in close partnership with the inbound sales and lead generation teams to optimize the lead flow, minimize drop-off rates, and increase overall conversion. Your definition of 'activated' will align with the sales team's, ensuring shared focus on financial outcomes. You will identify bottlenecks in the lead process, understand sources of friction, and determine what transforms initial interest into successfully launched and performing deals. Your goal is to build products that enhance sales effectiveness and drive bottom-line impact, rather than creating additional work for sales or merchants.

AI & Automation Prototyping

You will actively explore and prototype AI-powered solutions to improve merchant workflows, reduce friction, and accelerate processes. This involves building proof-of-concept and proof-of-execution prototypes to quickly validate ideas, test them with users, and gather evidence before scaling. You will partner with engineering and AI teams to translate validated prototypes into production-ready requirements. While engineering manages deployment and system operations, you will own the product outcomes and the velocity of learning.

Measurement & Instrumentation

You will define event schemas, success metrics, and analysis plans upfront, prior to launch. You will create a single, coherent data set that connects web analytics to sign-ups, deal launches, and activations. You will instrument funnels, cohorts, and experiments using tools such as PostHog, Mixpanel, or Amplitude. Feature flags and experimentation frameworks will be utilized for controlled rollouts, user segmentation, A/B testing, and de-risking launches. You won't 'wait for analytics'; you will ensure robust measurement and establish clear, agreed-upon baselines.

Financial Accountability

Every initiative you lead will be directly linked to revenue impact, churn reduction, or margin improvement. Outcomes will be reported in dollars and key metrics, not activities or launches. If an initiative cannot be measured, it will not ship.

Rapid Iteration Cycles

You will operate on short experiment cycles rather than lengthy monthly roadmaps. This means prototyping before speccing, instrumenting before launching, and learning faster than competitors. Speed, clarity, and evidence will consistently take precedence over consensus and lengthy ceremonies.

You Should Apply If

  • You've successfully launched and iterated on AI-enabled or automation-heavy customer experiences, and can demonstrate their impact.
  • You possess the skills to prototype workflows, write prompts, design evaluations, and diagnose failures effectively to unblock teams.
  • You have experience running controlled experiments and can clearly explain their results.
  • You have worked within marketplaces, e-commerce, or two-sided platforms.
  • You can read code and collaborate deeply with engineers and data partners.
  • You prioritize action over analysis paralysis.
  • You measure your own work in terms of business outcomes, not merely feature launches.

You Should Not Apply If

  • You require detailed specifications to be provided to you.
  • You prioritize stakeholder buy-in over speed and evidence.
  • You have no experience with P&L, margin, or unit economics.
  • You believe 'AI product management' primarily involves writing PRDs for others to build.
  • You need absolute certainty before taking action.

Hard Requirements

  • 6–8 years of product management experience, including 2+ years in AI/ML or automation-forward product development.
  • Hands-on experience with modern AI tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) for rapid prototyping and validation.
  • Proven experience in designing and executing controlled experiments (e.g., LaunchDarkly, GrowthBook, or similar).
  • Strong instrumentation and analytics skills, including defining event schemas, funnels, cohorts, and success metrics using tools like PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar.
  • Proficiency in data analysis (SQL is a minimum; Python is preferred).
  • A demonstrated ability to ship products under ambiguity and make informed decisions with incomplete information.

Strong Preferences

  • An engineering degree or prior engineering role.
  • Background in marketplace, e-commerce, or B2B SaaS environments.
  • Experience with merchant-facing or SMB products.
  • Familiarity with health, beauty, or wellness verticals, understanding merchant needs in these categories.
  • Experience building lightweight evaluation frameworks for LLM or automation features.
  • A track record of critically evaluating and deprecating features when data indicates it's necessary.
