Position Summary

This clerical role supports the patient care unit/outpatient clinics. Responsibilities include reception duties, purchasing and requisition submission, maintaining and filing medical charts, and scanning documents. The position also contributes to maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, volunteers, and visitors. The Clinical Secretary 6 works closely with physicians and other departments to ensure timely care delivery. This role requires the ability to multitask and thrive in a busy clinic environment. Proficiency in Cerner, scheduling, and appointment booking systems is essential.

Hours of Work

Hours are Monday to Friday, with 7.5-hour shifts.

Position Requirements

  • Post-secondary medical secretarial or health office administration diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registration and health record knowledge are an asset.
  • Patient scheduling knowledge is an asset.
  • Data entry and accuracy are required.
  • Medical terminology is required.
  • Recent ward clerk experience in an ambulatory care setting is preferred.
  • Ability to function effectively in fast-paced clinical areas with rapid turnover.
  • Working expert knowledge of data entry in Cerner is preferred.
  • Knowledge of all hospital computer software and MS Office is preferred.
  • Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and adaptability.
  • Familiarity with hospital office equipment (lab printers, addressograph, telephones, companion phones, fax machines, scanners, photocopiers).
  • Effective communication and organization skills, with the ability to adapt and manage a constantly changing environment.
  • Self-directed individual who practices confidentiality and discretion in patient/record contacts.
  • Excellent attendance record.
