Grafana Labs is actively seeking a Senior Product Counsel to join our dedicated, collaborative, and fast-growing legal team. This critical role will primarily serve as a legal advisor to the product and engineering teams, guiding feature development, product launches, and strategic initiatives. Additionally, this position will contribute to broader legal matters, encompassing non-standard licensing deals, privacy, and other cross-functional concerns.
The ideal candidate will be a creative, analytical, and highly detail-oriented individual who adopts a business-oriented approach. They will possess the ability to think strategically and cultivate a trusted advisor relationship with internal stakeholders.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Senior Product Counsel
- Conduct legal risk assessments for product features across their entire lifecycle.
- Review, advise on, and negotiate a diverse range of agreements, including complex inbound and outbound licenses, data processing agreements (GDPR, CCPA), information security contracts, and other technology-related agreements.
- Develop scalable product review processes and comprehensive legal playbooks.
- Collaborate extensively with cross-functional business teams on various legal, regulatory, and corporate matters, such as licensing, data protection, privacy, and more.
- Partner closely with security and privacy teams to proactively build programs and respond effectively to incidents.
- Provide expert advice on the governance and commercialization of AI features.
- Contribute to the development of efficient workflows and processes to scale the legal team, including the strategic use of AI tools for productivity.
- Assist with initiatives focused on privacy-by-design and security-by-design principles.
- Assess IP risk associated with third-party software and embedded technologies.
- Draft and negotiate complex software license agreements, including OEM, white-label, embedded use, and distribution models.
- Partner with the commercial legal team to ensure seamless alignment between product capabilities and contractual commitments.
What Makes You a Great Fit for this Role
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and bar admission in good standing in at least one U.S. state or equivalent local residency qualification.
- 5+ years of in-house legal experience specifically within a technology software company (SaaS industry preferred).
- A total of 8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proven capability to maintain strong relationships with internal clients, providing a high level of client service.
- Significant expertise in data protection laws, open-source licensing, and AI regulation.
- Extensive experience negotiating non-standard and strategic licensing agreements.
- Adept at balancing risk mitigation with business agility and speed.
- Ability to distill and prioritize complex and urgent legal matters effectively.
- Sound business acumen with the ability to recognize and balance risk appropriately.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Compensation & Rewards in Ireland
In Ireland, the On-Target Earnings (OTE) for this Senior Product Counsel role range from EUR 145,000 to EUR 175,000. Actual compensation will vary based on level, experience, and assessed skillset. All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), providing every team member with ownership in Grafana Labs' success and fostering alignment as we scale globally.
