The Role of Public Health Nursing Practice Consultant
Reporting to the Regional Manager Population Health, the Public Health Nursing Practice Consultant ensures that individuals, families and communities in the region have access to high quality public health programs and services. These services include maternal child health, school health, sexual health, and communicable disease surveillance, prevention and control.
Key Responsibilities
The Public Health Nursing Practice Consultant, in collaboration with regional management and communities, performs the following:
- Establishes public health priorities in the region.
- Provides leadership for program implementation.
- Facilitates team building and integration of services by multi-disciplinary health professionals.
- Collaborates with community services across the region.
- Oversees mandated public health programs.
- Monitors compliance with territorial policies and standards for population health and health promotion.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through:
- An undergraduate degree in Nursing.
- Three (3) years of public health nursing experience.
- Eligibility to register with CANNN.
A master’s degree in public health is considered an asset. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages (Inuktut, English, French) is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
